HAPPY strives to give you the knowledge, support and encouragement you need to feel safe and secure in your role as a parent of a child with hearing loss

Roughly 1 in 500 newborns have a permanent hearing impairment. Of these, approximately 90% have hearing parents with no prior experience of hearing loss. It is therefore not uncommon for parents to lack knowledge about hearing when they learn that their child has a hearing impairment. Nor is it surprising if the news arouses a multitude of thoughts, reflections, and questions.

Several research studies indicate that parents experience the initial period as both tumultuous and confusing. Researchers further argue that parents, in hindsight, express a desire for more knowledge and support than they feel they have received.

Your parent guide, HAPPY, aims to strengthen your understanding of hearing and provide support and encouragement while your family adjusts to hearing aids as part of your daily life.
